Names withheld from report on NHS watchdog cover up

The name of the person who ordered the cover-up of a botched investigation by the health watchdog into a hospital where mothers and babies died has been removed from today’s report into the debacle.

Families of the victims of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust complained this morning that the Care and Quality Commission (CQC) has not identified who was responsible.

“It’s an anonymous report,” said James Titcombe, whose baby son, Joshua, died in 2008 at nine days old after maternity staff failed to treat a simple infection.

“I think there are questions about whether that reflects the direction the NHS should be going in on openness and transparency.”
