Blue eyes are peeping across Britain

When Darwin wrote about the “survival of the fittest” he certainly didn’t have this in mind.

Blue is now the most common colour for eyes in Britain, according to research, and scientists believe it is to do with the sexual allure projected by those blessed with them. To put it another way: we think people with blue eyes are fit.

The Blue Eyes Project has found that although all eyes in Britain were once brown, they are now 48 per cent blue, 30 per cent green and 22 per cent brown. Although blue eyes do not provide better sight, in the UK and across Europe there has been a change in eye colour from brown to blue.
