When was the last time you walked a mile? Or broke into a sweat, not from checking your bank statement, but through the smallest amount of physical effort? If you are sitting down reading this, even standing up would be a bonus — when did you last do that? If this pricks your conscience, then it should. We may be about to showcase the most supremely gifted human bodies in the world, but outside the Olympic Park we are a nation whose predilection for athleticism has reached an all time low. Last week, scientists outlined in the Lancet medical journal just how far our fitness has fallen by labelling us one of the most sedentary populations in the world. We are now more slothful even
