Ukraine came under a huge cyber-attack today which caused havoc in businesses and government departments, hours after a senior military officer was killed in a car bombing in the capital.

The source of the attack was unclear. Moscow has been accused of previous hacking attacks in Ukraine, but several companies in Russia were also hit, as well as a large Danish shipping company. There were signs of it spreading to the UK, Spain and beyond in a repeat of the worldwide WannaCry “ransomware” attack last month.

The Kremlin’s hand is likely to be suspected in the car bombing as pro-Russian rebels continue to fight government forces in the east of the country.
