President Trump’s son-in-law sought to establish clandestine ties with the Kremlin through Russia’s ambassador to Washington, it has been alleged.
Jared Kushner proposed setting up secret communications channels between Mr Trump’s aides and Russian officials during the transition from his election to the inauguration in January.
Mr Kushner pitched the idea of using Russian diplomatic facilities for discussions on Syria and other policy issues to Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador believed to be a spy recruiter, during a meeting in December.
Mr Kislyak reported the conversation to his superiors in Moscow, intelligence officials told the Washington Post, and the episode has become a focal point in the FBI investigation into the ties between Mr Trump, his aides and Russia.
