A doctor found to be the “root cause” of a young girl’s death from asthma is still practising after being given a short suspension in a private disciplinary hearing.

Ellie-May Clark, five, died of an asthma attack hours after Joanne Rowe allegedly refused to see her because she was late for an emergency appointment. Dr Rowe had been warned previously that the girl was at risk of a life-threatening seizure.

Ellie-May and her mother, Shanice, were sent home and told to return in the morning. She died after an asthma attack that night.

Dr Rowe was suspended for six months on full pay after Ellie-May’s death in Newport, south Wales, in January 2015.
