Nearly £2 million was raised for victims of the Grenfell Tower fire last night in a sale of work by some of the biggest names in modern art with one picture fetching £320,000.

Work by British artists including Tracey Emin, Jake and Dinos Chapman, Anish Kapoor and Antony Gormley, fetched thousands each at Sotheby’s in London.

However, it was a green chromogenic print, Freischwimmer 193, by Wolfgang Tillmans, a German photographer, that created a bidding war. The print sold for £320,000, £140,000 more than the best estimate of £180,000.

Also selling for six figures was Small Charge by Gormley, which made £280,000, and a neon sign with the words Loving You More, by Emin, which was bought for £140,000.
