Guinea pigs

Sir, It is misleading for the industry-funded report on pesticides (“British crops at risk from pesticides ban”, Oct 21) to state that pesticides “are subject to rigorous testing and safety assessments”.

No assessment has been made on the risks to people living near sprayed fields with regard to their long-term and cumulative exposure to the “cocktails” of pesticides sprayed on crops.

It is beyond dispute that pesticides can cause a wide range of acute and chronic effects on human health. The UK government continues to subject its citizens to a guinea pig-style experiment.
