Police disperse Everton fans in Lille ‘using tear gas and rubber bullets’

Everton have warned their fans to avoid the main square in Lille after supporters came under fire today from police reportedly using rubber bullets and tear gas.

The travelling fans congregated in large numbers in the French city’s Grand Place before the Europa League match against Lille this evening, but were dispersed by police in riot gear.

It comes only hours after two Everton fans were taken to hospital with minor injuries when a group of men attacked them in a bar in the city last night.

Everton sent out a message to their fans this afternoon as reports of the latest flare-up emerged. It read: “We advise Everton fans in Lille to avoid the main square in the city centre.”
