Housebuilding boosted by new legislation

This week, Boris Johnson took a leaf out of TV presenter Kevin McCloud’s book when he pledged £5 million to help Londoners to build their own homes in a Grand Designs-style housing revolution. The funding is intended to support 150 homes initially, on the sites of former laundries and garages, potentially delivering 10,000 homes across the city over the next decade.

However, 10,000 homes is just a drop in the ocean, given how far the UK is falling short of its housebuilding targets. Last week, government statistics showed that housebuilding grew by 10 per cent last year.
