The days of the office desk phone could be numbered after BT re-entered the mobile market with a business smartphone that is designed to regain a toehold in a sector it abandoned more than a decade ago.

The telecoms group has launched the “One Phone”, a cloud-based smartphone system that acts like a desk phone when it is used in the office and a normal mobile phone when a worker is on the road.

It is the first in a series of product releases over the coming months as BT re-enters the mobile phone market after having acquired spectrum, the airwaves that carry mobile phone signals, in last year’s 4G auction.
