Roger Federer has stepped in to fill the void after Rafael Nadal was forced to pull out of the inaugural International Premier Tennis League (IPTL) due to “health problems”.

Nadal, the world No 2, also missed the US Open last month with a wrist injury he sustained in practice. Although he is still scheduled to play in the ATP World Tour Finals in London, which begins on November 9, his withdrawal from the IPTL, which opens on November 28, is down to

“I am very disappointed to announce that I will not be part of the first edition of the IPTL,” Nadal said. “I was looking forward to representing Indian Aces and playing in front of fans in New Delhi in the exciting new League.
