Sainsbury’s has angered British Jews by emptying the kosher section in one of its London stores over fears that it would be a target for anti-Israel protesters.

The supermarket’s decision to withdraw meats, cheeses and sauces from its shop in Holborn on Saturday during a demonstration nearby against the Gaza war has drawn complaints.

The action was taken on the same day that anti-Israel protesters stormed a Birmingham branch of Tesco.

Colin Appleby, an actor, put a photo of the empty shelves on Facebook and said that many of the goods were not from Israel but other countries, including Britain.
