Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta dies at 82

Oscar de la Renta, the man who shaped the warderobes of everyone from first ladies to Hollywood stars, has died aged 82.

The designer’s death at his Connecticut home was confirmed by wife, Annette de la Renta, to the New York Times.

The paper said the cause was complications from cancer, which he had suffered from intermittently for the past few years.

A handwritten statement signed by two of his company’s executives, Eliza Reed Bolen and Alex Bolen, his stepdaughter and her husband, said he had been surrounded by family, friends and “more than a few dogs”.
