Sky’s the limit as Gherkin sale looms

Agents have been appointed to sell the “Gherkin” skyscraper in what will be one of the most closely watched property sales in the Square Mile for years.

Savills and Deloitte Real Estate are expected to be confirmed this morning as the appointed sales advisers for the building, which collapsed into receivership in April when a group of banks, owed more than £500 million, lost patience with the owners.

The banks called in three joint receivers from Deloitte to handle the process, including Neville Kahn, the insolvency practitioner who was last week referred to the accountancy watchdog for his role overseeing the liquidation of Comet, the electrical retailer.

A sale of the City landmark building will mark the end of a five-year struggle between the owners
