Serious questions must be answered about which Liberal Democrats knew of allegations of sex abuse against MP Cyril Smith, the party’s president has said.
Tim Farron said the police investigation remained the best way forward in dealing with the claims, but said both the Liberal Democrats and Labour had to play their part in the investigation.
It has been alleged that Sir Cyril, who was a Labour councillor and Liberal Democrat MP for Rochdale from 1972 to 1992, abused boys at the town’s Knowl View residential school and at the private Cambridge House children’s care home.
