Witnesses claim uniformed men tampered with plane wreckage

International investigators scoured the remains of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 for the first time yesterday in a crash site hugely compromised since the aircraft plunged out of the skies over eastern Ukraine six days ago.

Three Malaysian accident investigators, the first international air crash specialists to study the scene, spent several hours picking through wreckage at the site, which covers more than ten square miles.

Their arrival came as separatist leaders handed over black box voice recorders to a Malaysian official in Donetsk after extensive negotiations.

The contents of the black box recordings became more important last night after US intelligence officials admitted they did not know who had fired the missile that brought down the Boeing 777.
