Britain’s elite universities continue to dominate many of the main academic disciplines across the globe, despite mounting competition from well-funded universities in Asia.

Cambridge is ranked in the world’s top ten in 31 different subjects, more than any other in the world, according to a new table comparing universities by faculty.

Oxford holds joint second place with Stanford, both featuring in the global top ten in 29 subjects, followed by Harvard with 28. The tables, compiled by QS World University Rankings, show that the US continues to have more world-leading institutions by subject than any other country, but Britain remains in second place and well ahead of its nearest rivals.
