Suspect limps into dock to face charge of killing soldier

The younger suspect in the murder last week of Drummer Lee Rigby appeared in the dock in handcuffs yesterday. Michael Adebowale, 22, was flanked by two plain-clothes police officers and two guards at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

Adebowale, who was wounded when police shot him outside Woolwich army barracks in southeast London, was told that he could remain seated. He had a bandage on his right hand and was limping. He nodded when Judge Howard Riddle, the Chief Magistrate, mentioned his injuries but otherwise stared fixedly ahead during the brief hearing and showed no emotion. He spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.
