Disneyland Paris sorted staff members and job applicants according to their ethnicity in an attempt to weed out people from the deprived suburbs of Paris, a court was told.

Euro Disney, which owns the park, is on trial for racial discrimination after documents showed that the company categorised staff under headings such as “Africa outside the Maghreb”, “Africa Maghreb” and “west Europe”.

The case dates from 2006 when Disneyland posted an advertisement in the French press seeking staff “of European nationality”.

La Maison des Potes, the group that brought the legal action, claimed that Disneyland also discriminated against immigrants from the Paris suburbs.
