A Danish former Nazi who was fifth on the Simon Wiesenthal Center’s “most-wanted” list has died a free man at his home in Germany.

Soren Kam died at the age of 93 in Kempten in the southern state of Bavaria on March 23, two weeks after his wife had died, according to a death notice in the Allgäuer Zeitung that was placed by his children.

Kam was a highly decorated volunteer officer in the SS panzer division Wiking who fought on the Eastern front.

Shortly after the Second World War a Danish court convicted him in absentia of the murder of Carl Henrik Clemmensen, a Danish anti-Nazi newspaper editor. Another man who was convicted of the murder was executed.
