Trustees’ terms should be limited to a maximum of eight years, and effective training and appraisal must be a condition for becoming a trustee of a large charity, Sir Stephen Bubb says

Sir, Pundits, politicians and the media are all taking part in a messy postmortem examination of Kids Company. But it is clear that the main cause of the charity’s demise was the fatal absence of good governance and sound administration.

It is all very well to wish that every penny raised should go to the front line but, as we have seen, this can lead to catastrophic consequences if an unsupported front line collapses. Money needs to be spent on good governance and sound administration, and this also means paying professional salaries for professional people in key leadership roles.
