Oscar Pistorius is reportedly refusing to eat his prison rations, living off tinned food bought from his jail’s tuck shop instead because he thinks somebody is trying to kill him.

The disgraced Olympic sprinter is living on a diet of canned chakalaka – a South African spicy vegetable dish – minus the meat that is usually served with it, according to a local magazine which spoke to several of his fellow inmates.

Pistorius was sentenced to five years in Pretoria’s Kgosi Mampuru prison in October last year, after his culpable homicide conviction for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead on Valentine’s Day 2013. He is expected to be allowed out in August to serve the rest of his term under house arrest.
