Cameron agrees to change ‘loaded’ wording of EU vote

David Cameron has agreed to change the wording of his proposed EU referendum to avoid loading the vote in favour of remaining in Europe.

In a surprise boost to the campaign for Britain to leave the EU, the Electoral Commission backed concerns that the “yes or no” question proposed by No 10 ran the risk of encouraging people to support the status quo of remaining an EU member state.

Voters will no longer be asked to answer “yes” or “no” to the question: “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union?”

Instead, they will be asked: “Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?”
