Women who experience fertility problems have a 60 per cent greater risk of ovarian cancer, according to a British study.

Those who resort to IVF before their thirties and women with endometriosis, a common and painful condition in which cells from the uterus grow in other parts of the body, appear to be particularly likely to develop the disease.

Scientists led by researchers at University College London studied the records of more than 255,000 women who had been through IVF since 1991 and found that 386 had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer within nine years of the treatment.
