Suspected US hate killer arrested in traffic stop

A 21-year-old white man accused of shooting dead nine people in an historical black church in Charleston, South Carolina, has been arrested.

With America reeling from one of its most brutal hate crimes, officials said that Dylann Storm Roof was held after a traffic stop in the small town of Shelby, some 250 miles to the north.

The alleged gunman’s arrest came despite a claim that he spared the life of an elderly woman during last night’s church massacre after telling her that “we need a survivor because I’m going to kill myself”.

As he went on the rampage he had said: “You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go.”
