The company that delivered the steel structures for the Cheesegrater in London has admitted that replacing the skyscraper’s faulty bolts will cost at least £1 million.

Severfield, Britain’s largest steelmaker that is also responsible for the structures of the Shard and Manchester City’s Etihad stadium, said that replacing the bolts, which is being done in conjunction with British Land, Laing O’Rourke and Arup, is likely to last for the rest of the year.

“Whilst these works progress, all parties continue discussions to agree where the liability for the costs of the programme should rest. The group’s costs are being regarded as exceptional and will not impact our underlying operating profit for the current year,” it said in a trading update.

Last November, it emerged that
