Primary schools have been criticised for throwing “end of Sats” celebrations for classes who have finished their national curriculum tests.

The magazine Schools Week reported a number of events at which year 6 children let off steam with teachers.

There was an hour of karaoke, music and celebratory snacks on paper plates at Stubbins primary school in Ramsbottom, Lancashire, with a trip on a steam railway the next day. It was a nice way for children to relax after a “very stressful week for them”, a teacher said.

Parties were also thrown at St John the Baptist Catholic primary school in Camborne, Cornwall and Cockfield primary school near Bishop Auckland.
