An immutable part of the New York jazz scene, the trumpeter Lew Soloff forged his reputation on the road with the band Blood Sweat and Tears, and was a frequent visitor to both Japan and Britain, performing here with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

Brooklyn born, Lewis Michael Soloff heard plenty of music in his youth, as his father managed a nightclub.
