Army explosives experts have safely removed an unexploded Second World War bomb discovered near Wembley Stadium in west London.

Around 300 homes were evacuated along with a studio being used to film the TV show Britain’s Got Talent, after the 50kg (110lb) explosive was discovered by builders yesterday afternoon.

The army warned of a “genuine risk to life” as Royal Engineers worked to defuse the bomb inside a 400 metre blast zone designed to limit the damage if it did go off.

Police confirmed that the bomb had been safely removed on Friday and cordons around the site had been taken down, meaning that residents could finally return home.
