Adoption officials have lifted a ban on children being placed with parents who smoke e-cigarettes.
The British Association for Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) has changed its previous policy, which considered the battery-powered vaporisers to be the same as tobacco cigarettes.
The association has now admitted that the two products are “different” and that e-cigarettes do not pose the same risks. A couple from Staffordshire, who went through a year-long adoption process only to be turned down after the would-be father was seen using an e-cigarette, said they welcomed the change in policy.
Abigail, the wife, said: “It’s a shame for us that it took such lengths for things to change, but at least other couples should be spared what we went through.”
