Financial ombudsman deals with 5,000 PPI complaints a week

Complaints about payment protection insurance remained the biggest problem the Financial Ombudsman Service dealt with this year as it revealed it waded through 5,000 grievances a week.

New figures released by the FOS, which cover complaints between January 1 and June 30, showed 70 per cent of the 191,129 cases brought forward related to PPI.

During this time the FOS dealt with about 133,819 PPI complaints, down from 193,054 in the previous six months.

While the FOS confirmed this was down from 2013, when it was receiving over 12,000 complaints a week, it was “still significantly more than any other financial product”.
