It started as many Saturday nights do: dozens of guests at a house party for an evening of revelry over live music, dancing and good conversation. It ended in an alcohol-fuelled fist-fight involving furious exchanges, bloodied noses, and Alaska’s most famous governor allegedly screaming: “Don’t you know who I am?”

Sarah Palin, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate, was under fresh scrutiny yesterday amid reports that she and her family were at the centre of a brawl at a gathering of 70 people in Anchorage last weekend.

The former Alaska governor and family members are said to have attended the event, held to celebrate the state’s Iron Dog snowmobile race, which her husband, Todd, who was also marking his 50th birthday, has won several times. Mrs
