Robert Sarver, the American basketball owner, has ended his surprise attempt to take control of Rangers after his second offer of £20 million was again rejected by the Ibrox board.

The troubled Championship club remain desperate for financial salvation with £6.5 million urgently required this week, but the under-fire Rangers board have decided that accepting the offer from the owner of the Phoenix Sunswas not the way to go about it.
