Duchess of Cambridge’s special delivery: a royal male

It’s a boy — and the rewriting of history will have to wait. After more than ten hours of labour, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth yesterday to a future king.

Her son, who weighed 8lb 6oz, was delivered at 4.24pm in the private Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.

The Duke of Cambridge, who was present for the birth and who stayed overnight at the hospital, said last night: “We could not be happier.”

In a statement released at 8.29pm, just over four hours after the birth, Kensington Palace said: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.
