Students now have the chance to study subjects as diverse as brewing, Vikings, ethical computer hacking and the psychology of golf.

A list of odd university subjects published today by Which? offers a snapshot of the most unusual courses in the country — and many of them would not look out of place at Hogwarts. Indeed, students of education at Durham University can enjoy the module “Gryffindor and Slytherin: prejudice and intolerance in the classroom”.

There is a brewing and distilling course at Heriot Watt in Edinburgh, a degree in ethical hacking at Dundee, a course in international spa management at the University of Derby, and one on applied golf management at the University of Birmingham.
