BG has been forced to pay top dollar to recruit one of the oil and gas sector’s most well-respected figures to lead the company after seven months without a chief executive, offering Helge Lund a package of up to £29 million.

Mr Lund will become the FTSE 100’s first Norwegian chief executive after agreeing to join BG in March from Statoil. He will be paid £480,000 just to make the move from Stavanger, where Statoil is based, to the south east of England, and his £1.5 million base salary will be enhanced by a potential bonus worth twice that and an annual long-term incentive payment of up to £9 million.
